SUAMPRIPAD holds charity drive

24 June 2014

In the spirit of sharing, caring and fellowship, SUAMPRIPAD today held a charity drive to help ease the burden of less fortunate families.

A total of six families were selected for the programme, where they were provided with basic necessities such as rice, instant noodles, canned foods and drinks. The donations given to these families had been collected through a charity event organised by the school that saw the participation of teachers, staff and students.

Houses that were visited today included the home of Awang Salim bin Hj Kula who is employed as a labourer. He lives with his wife and eight children who are still in school in a wooden barrack in Kg Serusop. SUAMPRIPAD principal, Ustazah Hjh Haryati binti Hj Ahmad handed the donations to his wife.

Contributions were also given to Halimah binti Latip, a widow who lost her husband last year. With a daily wage of $10 and 12 children to support, Dyg Halimah said she was grateful to Allah the Almighty to have received the donation.

Another recipient, Lailatul Rosaidah binti Mohd Said, a 38-year-old housewife, has heart disease and asthma and lives with her husband and 11 children in Kg Pancha Delima. She also expressed her happiness and excitement after she received the donated basic necessities from the school.

The school delegation also made a stop at the home of Mohd Zoora Shah Rozley bin Yahya in Kg Rimba. Mohd Zoora has been unable to find a job due to a rare skin disease and is currently staying in his parents’ house with his wife and three young children.

Principal Ustazah Hjh Haryati said that this year was the first time the school had organised such a project to lend a helping hand to the impoverished families in the Brunei-Muara District.

“We hope to be able to provide more goods for more families, on a larger scale in the future,” she added.
