Arabic school teachers attend briefing

5 April 2014

Recognizing that values are key to character building, the Department of Islamic Studies (JPI) Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) today held a briefing to provide information on integrating moral values in teaching and learning.

A presentation on “Assessment of moral values in teaching and learning” was delivered by Ustazah Hjh Norlina Hj Untung from the Inspectorate Section, JPI.

She emphasised the importance of giving special attention to moral values amongst students as they need to possess an identity that is noble and resilient

Teachers play an important role because they serve as role models for educating students. However, some teachers do not know how to impart moral values while those who plan to implement it (moral values) in their teaching may not do so as their main priority is geared towards examinations, she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Inspectorate Section of JPI, Awg Hj Hasbi bin Mohd Suhaily in his speech explained that integrating moral values in the classroom can be considered as giving advice to students. In addition, he gave examples of moral values which teachers can incorporate in their lessons which are not related to the subjects taught.
